Internet Modeling 101: Stop Messing Around With Your Frickin’ Hair!

Professional models know that their hair is part of their brand. And for beauty show models, your hair can be your money-maker as well.  I can’t even begin to tell you how many times this has happened to me over the years: we pick a blonde model for a photo shoot… but a ginger shows up instead.  Sigh, right?

I have no issue with women and  their obsession with their hair.  But when they are obsessed AND unhappy with it?  That usually presents a problem.

Too many amateur and aspiring models seem to freak out the night before a photo shoot, and impulsively dye their hair another color. Not only is that annoying, but it may also get you sent home for the day.  Showing up to a photo shoot looking like someone other than the person we hired is kinda like showing up for an accounting job and saying, “I want to be the secretary today.”

If we’re lucky, the model tells us in advance that her hair color has changed.  Hopefully enough fair-warning was given to find a replacement, if need be.

On more than one occasion, I didn’t even recognize a model I’ve worked with before, because her hair color and style had changed so drastically.  And usually, not for the better.

If you do mess with your hair, at least be kind and send a head’s up message and an updated head shot to anyone you’ve already booked with. Be sure any agencies you work with also know you’ve changed your look.

I don’t see any need to brow-beat this issue further.  It seems so obvious already, but needs to be mentioned one last time:

Models: please stop messing around with your frickin’ hair!    Thank you!  :)

Onward and upward,
